This DVD looks at three burns and scalds scenarios: a scald from a hot drink being spilled, a contact burn from an oven hob and a bath water scald from a child falling or climbing into a hot bath.
Six toddlers every day are admitted to hospital in the UK because they’ve been badly burned or scalded. Their skin is up to 15 times thinner than that of an adult, so a burn or scald is more likely to cause a serious injury.
The film includes interviews with actors playing the part of parents whose child has suffered a burn or a scald, footage from the child’s perspective and expert commentary from Dr Amber Young, Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist and clinical lead for the children’s burns team at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
The pack includes:
- support cards to facilitate group and individual discussions, including facts and figures, ideas for activities and tips for engaging parents
- 70 of each of four related flyers which can be replenished.
