In 2007, local Child Safety Week activities and events reached an estimated 4 million children, young people, parents and grandparents UK-wide. Independent market research showed that over half of parents with an awareness of Child Safety Week took action to make their children safer. With your help, we can reach even more families during Child Safety Week 2008.
Whether you are a midwife, health visitor, nursery nurse, teacher, lecturer, childminder, children's centre team member, community worker, road safety officer or fire officer – or work with parents, carers, children and young people in any other way – we really welcome your involvement.
“Child Safety Week reminds the whole community – parents, grandparents, carers, children – not to get complacent about dangers around the home, garden and schools. A lovely fun way to remind us to keep safe”
Christine, Mother, Dorset
Child Safety Week is a great way to organise fun, engaging activities – and get across serious messages about preventing childhood accidents at the same time. Activities can include Child Safety Week quizzes and competitions, safety demonstrations and checks, safety role plays with children, chances to sign up for free home fire safety checks and smoke alarms, advice from local experts and safety displays with free information for families to take away.
The Child Safety Week resource pack is designed to act as a launch pad for your local activities, not just during Child Safety Week but during the rest of the year as well. Our ideas booklet is packed with facts to get you thinking, safety tips to pass on, activity ideas, details of useful resources and websites, plus fun quizzes for all ages. You can download a pdf version of the ideas booklet now.
If you’re looking for ideas or inspiration for your local events, even after Child Safety Week, why not download some activity ideas from Child Safety Week 2007.
Tell us what you did during the Week so that we can help people with ideas next year. Please email us at csw@capt.org.uk, putting 'Child Safety Week event' in the subject line. Send us details of your events, any photos you may have and your contact details.
The Child Accident Prevention Trust is the official charity partner for Fireman Sam in the UK. And Fireman Sam is lending his support to Child Safety Week through a roadshow.
Fireman Sam will be appearing – along with the local fire and rescue service – at the following Toys R Us superstores:

There will be safety advice and information, plus the chance to enter a competition to win some great Fireman Sam goodies! See local press for details.
Child Safety Week helps open doors to partnership working for child accident prevention - and the multi-agency working helps families see that safety is everyone's business.
Last year, over half of the local organisations who ran activities for Child Safety Week did so in collaboration with other agencies. And the vast majority expected their partnership work to continue long beyond the Week itself.
